El 1 de septiembre de 2019, Bahamas sufrió el impacto del huracán Dorian de categoría 5, el más fuerte registrado en el país. Según la Evaluación de Daños y Pérdidas (DALA por sus siglas en inglés), Dorian dañó el 54% de la infraestructura total del sector eléctrico del país.
A través del Instrumento para Inversiones en El Caribe (conocido por sus siglas en inglés como CIF), la UE se unió al BID para apoyar al gobierno de las Bahamas en la rehabilitación de las infraestructuras energéticas críticas y el restablecimiento del servicio eléctrico en las islas fuertemente afectadas por el huracán Dorian, integrando al mismo tiempo las energías renovables.

El objetivo principal de este proyecto es mitigar los impactos de la pandemia de la COVID-19 en la República Dominicana y fortalecer las capacidades del país en términos de resiliencia, preparación y respuesta a las crisis a través del mejoramiento de sus políticas sociales y de salud. Al mismo tiempo, el proyecto busca promover los principios de Buen Gobierno, mediante el fortalecimiento del sistema de vigilancia de la salud del país y el desarrollo de medidas de protección social, con especial énfasis en el empoderamiento de la mujer.
El proyecto incluye dos componentes: 1) el desarrollo de respuestas rápidas y políticas públicas de largo plazo para apoyar el sistema de salud, el sector de protección social y la economía, y 2) la implementación de asistencia técnica e inversiones en equipos para apoyar el desarrollo de las medidas mencionadas anteriormente.

Este programa busca apoyar a las autoridades dominicanas tanto a nivel local como nacional en su participación en acciones transformadoras para una movilidad urbana más sostenible. Apoyará a la nueva institución de transporte, INTRANT, en la implementación de la Política Nacional de Movilidad Urbana (NUMP) recientemente formulada, así como el Plan de Movilidad Urbana Sostenible (PMUS) elaborado para la ciudad de Santo Domingo en el marco de la iniciativa MobiliseYourCity (MYC). The project seeks to alleviate the pressure on the reference hospitals in Kingston from the large, underserved populations in three parishes of the country’s interior. El objetivo de este proyecto es apoyar la reconstrucción de las infraestructuras dañadas por el huracán Matthew en octubre de 2016 e inundaciones repentinas en noviembre de 2017. El proyecto se concentrará en las cuatro provincias identificadas por el Gobierno de República Dominicana como las más afectadas por estos eventos catastróficos, a saber Monte Cristi, Puerto Plata, Espaillat y Duarte. El proyecto supondrá la restauración o nueva construcción de infraestructuras sociales y básicas, como carreteras, puentes, hidráulica, vivienda e infraestructura urbana. This Energy Management and Efficiency Programme (EMEP) promotes energy efficiency and conservation to free public funds through lower government bills and reduced oil imports, helping the government of Jamaica to further reduce its debt and create the fiscal space for productive spending whilst also contributing to greenhouse gas emissions’ reduction.
The specific objectives of this programme are:
- reduced electricity consumption within government facilities;
- decreased fuel consumption through improved traffic control management;
- increased institutional capacity to promote and supervise electricity planning in Jamaica.

The objective of this project is to expand and reinforce the public operator for urban water supply systems in the coastal area of Suriname. El objetivo de este proyecto es reforzar la eficiencia y sostenibilidad técnica y financiera del Instituto Nacional de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (INAPA) y de la Corporación de Agua y Alcantarillado de Santiago (CORAASAN), mediante inversiones en infraestructura de agua y saneamiento, desarrollo de capacidades y apoyo técnico para garantizar la calidad, eficiencia y sostenibilidad de los servicios, así como reducir la descarga de aguas residuales al medio ambiente.
Este proyecto contribuye a los programas de inversión en el sector de agua y saneamiento realizados por INAPA, activo en áreas rurales y periurbanas, y por CORAASAN, activo en la ciudad y en la provincia de Santiago, reforzando su eficiencia y sostenibilidad al mismo tiempo.

The project seeks to rehabilitate the most deteriorated segment of one of Belize's main highways, the George Price Highway (GPH), up to national standards and to preserve it through adequate maintenance while improving and guaranteeing road connectivity between the Northern, Southern and Central Regions of Belize as well as enhancing physical connectivity with Central America and Mexico. The GPH is included in the International Network of Mesoamerican Roads (RICAM), which is recognized as important for physical regional integration and the progressive implementation of a Partial-Scope Agreement with Guatemala (2010) and other trade agreements being negotiated with Honduras and El Salvador.

El Programa de Rehabilitación de Redes de Distribución y Reducción de Pérdidas Eléctricas implementado por la CDEEE (Corporación de Empresas Eléctricas del Estado Dominicano) busca reducir progresivamente las pérdidas técnicas y no técnicas de energía en las empresas distribuidoras de electricidad.
El objetivo de este programa es contribuir a la sostenibilidad del sector eléctrico fortaleciendo los procedimientos operativos y el desempeño corporativo de la compañía eléctrica nacional y mejorando la sostenibilidad del suministro eléctrico rural. Esta intervención reducirá los costos de generación, revisará la estructura tarifaria actual, evaluará las opciones para la generación de energía utilizando tecnologías bajas en carbono y mejorará el acceso a la energía sostenible.

(GPL) electricity distribution system by financing infrastructure specifically focused on the reduction of electricity losses, deploying a strong Corporate Development Program (CDP) to manage GPL’s operations and implement solutions to GPL’s longstanding problems, while improving quality of service through: (a) the rehabilitation of the existing distribution network and associated equipment as part of a strategic loss reduction programme; and (b) the strengthening of GPL, in order to contribute to the enhancement of its corporate capacities, which will help to achieve a set of performance targets for GPL.

The objective of this project is to support the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica’s policy for the development of geothermal resources. In particular, it will significantly increase the knowledge of the geothermal potential in Wotten Waven, allowing for a rapid start of an initial small power production aimed at the local market, preparing the concession that will exploit this reservoir and monitoring the concessionaire’s operations initial investments.
The current project is the final step towards the materialization of the potentially largest geothermal power plant in the Caribbean with an overall cost currently estimated at EUR 500 – 600 million.
