The European Union Caribbean Investment Facility (CIF) signs an agreement with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) for contributing with EUR 8 448 000 to the project Support to the health, social and economic response to the crisis related to COVID-19 in Dominican Republic, also financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and leveraging up to EUR 425 million.

In the complex and dynamic context of the COVID crisis, this joint action will help mitigate the impacts of the pandemic in the Dominican Republic, through rapid response measures while promoting policy dialogue related to the emergency response and leaving room for adaptation to evolving circumstances in the implementation of the recovery plan.

Through this project, AFD, IDB, and CIF will support the Dominican Republic over the next 4 years in strengthening the country's health surveillance system and adaptive social protection system for improving its resilience, preparedness, and crisis response capacity, while promoting a sustainable and inclusive economic recovery.

CIF's contribution will provide technical assistance and a non-reimbursable investment to purchase and modernise some essential equipment that is complementary to the measures that will be implemented by AFD and IDB.

Main entities in charge of the implementation will be the Ministry of Public Health (MoH), the Social Policy Cabinet and the Ministry of Economy, Planification and Development (MEPyD).
